Which liquid makes the most effective lava lamp?

For our enquiry during Science week, the Key Stage 2 children investigated whether acids or alkalis would create the best lava lamps. They used litmus paper to test what type of liquid they had for their lava lamp and what ph level it was. Then they predicted what would happen once the vitamin tablet was added to their solution and observed what happened.
