Upper course of the River Tyne

Today we ventured to Kielder to visit the source of the river Tyne. We studied the features of the upper course and sketched what we could see. Before we came to Kielder, we looked at maps of the area so that we knew what would be there. We noticed that the source is in a very rural area and that the river itself is very narrow and small. We tried to measure the river speed although we found this quite difficult due to the river being very overgrown with grass.

It’s hard to believe this small stream is the same river near our school!

Tomorrow we are going  to Corbridge to study the middle course of the river Tyne and to compare it with the source.
