Last week, Year 3 carried out a range of activities in order to help them identify and classify a range of rocks based on their physical properties. First, they carried out a sorting activity which required them to apply the knowledge they gained from their recent trip to the Great North Museum.

Next, they were introduced to an identification flowchart which they then made use of in order to discover the names of the rocks they had selected, as well as to cross-reference with their groupings, in order to make sure they had assigned them to the correct categories i.e. metamorphic, igneous and sedimentary.
