Year 1 enjoyed their visit to Gibside linked to their science unit plants. They completed a plant hunt in the walled garden and made observational drawings of trees and plants.
We finished the day off having fun in the park.
In maths Year One have been sharing amounts by grouping into 2s, 5s or 10s. At the end of the lesson the children worked together to investigate whether all numbers can be grouped in 2s, 5s and 10s.
Year 1 had a fantastic afternoon in the sunshine at Thorp Academy. They participated in 16 different multi skill activities ran by the year 7 sport leaders including running, jumping, throwing, catching and skipping.
Year 1 had lots of fun completing lots of world book day activities across the day. They participated in a treasure hunt, guessed the book by the emojis, crated book marks and character hunts. They all looked fantastic dressed up as their favourite book characters from their favourite stories...
In maths this week year 1 have been working systematically with numbers beyond 20 up to 50. The children have been partitioning numbers into tens and ones and identifying numbers by grouping numbers into tens and ones.
To celebrate Mars day, year 1 worked together to make a moon lander. Each group were given the exact same resources and they had to follow instructions to make their moon lander. Once completed, they launched them to see if the egg-naut survived.
This week, Year 1 have been working on doubles and near doubles. They have enjoyed lots of practical activities to show their understanding. We have been very impressed.
